Main Task: Unmanipulated Photos

I have chosen this this image for my music magazine double spread page. The reason for this is because it is the same person from the front cover and he seems really focused in the activity he is doing which helps portray a passion to what he is doing which is engaging for the audience to see and the focus is also sharp and neat. The fact that he is also pointing towards the camera with a microphone in his hands also brings across a strong message to readers

I have chosen this image to feature on my music magazine front page            because it is  has a good focus and lighting to it  and i believe that the image will capture the attention of the readers.
I have chosen this image to feature on my music magazine contents page because it is a strong image, and it I believe it suits my genre of Hip-Hop/Rap. The only concern is possibly the lighting but that can always be fixed during the process of designing the contents page.
I have chosen this image to feature on my music magazine contents page because it is a strong image which shows the person in the picture grinning with a colden tooth and I believe he suits the genre of Hip-Hop/Rap.
I have chosen this image to feature on my music magazine contents page because it is a strong image which shows the person in the picture holding a microphone and singing whilst looking into the camera

These are my unmanipulated images which were in my magazines

Main Task: Front Cover FINAL

Main Task: FC,CP,DPS Mock Ups

These are brief mock ups of how my college music magazine should hopefully look like. I have tried to rotate the images so that the examiner wont have to twist their neck to see it but blogger won't enable me to do it.

Main Task: Case Study Of A Publishing House

Conde Nast publishes approximately 27 different magazines. Some of the magazines they publish up to date are the following :

Fashion & Lifestyle· Vogue
· Glamour
· Allure
· Self
· Teen Vogue
· GQ
· Details
· Lucky
· Style.com
Home· Architectural Digest
Bridal· Brides
Sport· GolfDigest
· GolfWorld
Food· Bon Appétit
· Epicurious
· Gourmet Live
And many more…Each magazine published has its own unique target audience. The reason for this is because if they publish magazines that only relate to one target audience, then it will only appeal to one specific audience but if they have many different magazines that appeal to different target audiences, then they would have more consumers interested in their magazine products. Also it would then mean that they would be making more money because they would be publishing magazine covers for different target audiences because they have a bigger range of audiences.
Condé Nast is considered to be on of the originator of the “lifestyle magazines”, type of magazines focused on a particular class or interest instead of targeting the largest possible readership. Its magazines focus on a wide range of subjects, including travel, food, home, culture, and other interests, with fashion the larger portion of the company's focus.

Main Task: Mood Board

Main Task: Profiling Your Audience

Michelle is 16 years old, she currently is at college and is studying to be a lawyer. She likes to listen to hip-hop, bashment and some rap songs. Michelle loves to dance in her spare time and teaches young chidren to street dance. She lives with her mum and two little brothers and is a role model for her younger siblings due to she has done so many successful things and is doing well with herself as she wishes to persue her career as a lawyer of criminology. Michelle does have a wide range collection of magazines and enjoys reading them whenever she can and she prefers  music based magazines.

I intend to develop my own magazine to target this specific type of reader by having a wide range of music that would appeal to this reader such as bashment, hip-hop and pop giving her a wide variety and also allowing her to keep up to date with the latest news with music stars and latest singles and albums.

Main Task: Front Cover Textual Analysis

-
  1. DENOTATION: The magazine has a of an image of a woman looking directly at the camera. It is a medium long shot showing her head, arms and waist. She is standing diagonally with her legs placed together with her hands placed either side of her body. The background of the photograph is a light tiled background and the photograph covers the whole of the magazine cover. Behind Beyonce is the ‘VIBE’ Masthead, also behind her are three separate cover-Lines mostly in black and red. The woman in the images’ name is in black. A bar code is visible at the right corner of the magazine.
MASTHEAD: ‘VIBE’ masthead is very distinctive: written in bold red colours. After each bold red letter there is about 2cm space between each letter; they do not interfere with each other. The word ‘VIBE’ is used to describe rhythm of music, suggesting that the magazine is associated with music. It also suggests the type of music this magazine is mostly about (hip-hop).
CHARACTER: The cover image is of the world wide phenominom American singer ‘Beyonce’
COMPOSITION: She is posed in short shorts, her clothes are drenched which makes the image quite xual. Her posed, body language and clothing are very sexually suggestive and provocative. Her non-verbal communication is quite welcoming, almost as if the image is wanting the person (hands placed open, mouth slightly open with eyes looking direct into the camera).
COSTUME: Her clothes are shiny, glittery hot pants with a white low cut shirt, which is quite see-through; she is showing a lot of cleavage. This costume has been chosen carefully to appeal to the target audience of the magazine, who i would say are ment to be males. The clothing worn is similar to sum of the costumes she would wear whilst performing. The gold bangles and her wet long brown hair completes the look.
NVC: Her non-verbal communication is also very seductive. Her mouth is open displaying her teeth and the subtle tone of lipstick on her lips and she is looking directly at the camera.
Lighting: The lighting is very bright, highlighting the singer in the image; almost making her seem unreal.
Setting: There is little setting, although the tiles in the background almost suggest she is in a toilet or showers; which supports the wet look of the singer.
COVER-LINES: The main cover-line that relates to the artist in the image says 'BEYONCE STRIPS DOWN FOR SUMMER', this refers to the type of clothing she is wearing within the photograph; it also relates to the month and season that the issue came out (summer). The rest of the cover-lines tells us that this magazine does not only focus on musical subjects but also contains information on other issues within that area (such as a 'city summer guide') and more. The magazine, through its cover-lines shows it is diverse in what it chooses to write. All of the cover-lines use a bold thick font- which suggests the magazine has a lot of power and importance.

TARGET AUDIENCE: Overal, considering all the points, the target audience would be male and female ( mainly a male audience) aged 17-35. They would have a good knowledge of popular culture and a definite interest in a wide range of musical styles. They are also likely to be well educated and have a good knowledge in american popular culture.

Main Task : Audience Research

this is my audience research that i made before i made my final product in order to find out what it is that my readers would want to see in the magazine

Main Task: Double Page Spread Textual Analysis

Colour Scheme:
In this double page spread, the main colours seen are black red and white.

Images:
The Main image appears to have been taken whilst a band was performing; this image also seems to be in grey scale. Also there are several other smaller images, a image shows the band rehearsing in what seems to be a studio.
Non verbal communication:
The things that I've gathered from their non verbal communication is that they seem to be. putting a lot of effort into their work this is shown by their facial expressions

:

Colour Scheme:
In this double page spread there is a blue filter used on the image which gives the image a blueish colour

Main Image:
The main image seemed to have been taken in gym, there are also other images around the main image , showing punching bags and their is also text which is nect to the image

Non Verbal Communication:
From the image it seems like NAS is being serious about his views as he is looking directly into the camera with no facial expression

Main Task: Introduction

In these next blog posts i will be posting analysis' on existing front covers, double pages and contents pages. I will also be gathering research on publishing houses by doing case studies. As soon as these are done, I will be able to create ideas on how my own front cover, dps and contents page will look like and create photos that1 will help.I will be focusing on creating the front cover, contents page and double page spread of a Hip-Hop/Rap music magazine. I have chosen the 'Hip-Hop/Rap' genre because I love the music and I believe I can do a great job creating a 'Hip-Hop/Rap' magazine. I hope that at the end of my final products that i have managed to do a good job of my magazine so that i can hopefully get an A or a B for my overall coursework.
